Tonkean Maker Course
The Tonkean Maker course gives you hands-on experience with the Tonkean platform, teaching you how to customize workflows with new actions, fields, and custom interfaces. The Maker course introduces you to creating and configuring workflow elements from scratch, understanding how the end-user experience is translated into an automated solution.
In the Maker course, you're guided through a series of tutorial videos that walk through the entire process of creating a customized workflow in Tonkean, from understanding the user journey and building the intake flow to configuring the relevant interfaces and workspace app pages.
Target Audience and Prerequisites
This course is designed for new Tonkean makers with a working knowledge of core Tonkean concepts, features, and functionality. This user is looking to go beyond “book knowledge” and move into more practical applications of their Tonkean know-how. Users taking this course should have the following:
The ability to navigate the Tonkean platform and understand common screens.
A working knowledge of core features and functionality, especially modules, interfaces, and fields.
Familiarity with common Tonkean terms, such as "item," "module," and "interface."
If you haven't already, be sure to complete the Tonkean Foundations course before beginning the Maker course.
Work through the topics below in order, following along with your Implementation Architect on your own board.
Administer this Course for a Group
If you're taking this course with a group of makers—or helping to coordinate a group of makers taking this course simultaneously, we recommend the following approach:
Designate a lead maker or administrator - This user will be responsible for installing the course blueprint on the relevant board, adding other users as makers, and helping to guide other users through the initial setup.
It's helpful for this designated lead maker or admin to have some experience with Tonkean and have board admin permissions.
Install the course blueprint on a single board and use one solution - Rather than arrange for users to install and follow the course on disparate boards or multiple solutions, install the blueprint on your primary board and use one solution. This avoids the problem of duplicate data sources and the need to grant multiple solutions access to that data source.
Add all users as makers and create modules for each user - Invite all relevant makers to the board and solution, then create a module for each maker that features the user's full name. All users will have access to the reference module included in the blueprint.
Each user should include their name on the global fields and workspace app pages they create - Because global fields and workspace app pages are shared across a solution, multiple makers will end up creating duplicates of these objects as they progress through the course. Ensure each user appends their name to these fields and pages to avoid confusion. For example, each module could be named Intake - John Doe with the global field names being similarly appended with the user's name.
This approach helps to minimize duplicated content while still giving each user autonomy to work through the Maker Course at their own pace, and following all the steps as intended. If you have any questions about administering this course for a group, contact Support.
